Obituary

Roger Spada of Rouses Point., NY, formerly of Morristown and Whippany, died at Morris Hills Center on July 3, 2008. He was 93.

Mr. Spada lived in the Whippany and Morristown area before moving to Rouses Point in 1975.

Roger was in the rendering business for 68 years, beginning the family business, Whippany Soap Products, Inc when just out of high school, later adding Saratoga Soap Company in Delanson, NY. In 1963 he left to purchase York County Rendering Company in Saco, Maine, operating there until selling in 1967. He spent a few years as a rendering consultant then incorporated Northeast Farm Products in Ellenburg Depot, NY in 1970. He operated this plant for 33 years until at age 88 he reluctantly retired. He
savored every minute of being in business.

Roger was an active Rotarian in Whippany, NJ and Scarborough, Maine. A lifelong Republican he relished a good political discussion. His interests were many enjoying a round of golf with friends, fishing and clamming the Jersey shore, growing his vegetables and flowers, making the best manicotti from scratch and baking his peasant bread. His greatest enjoyment was flying his 1947 Stinson Voyager. Affable and congenial he was a great host with his trademark pipe in hand.

He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Janet Doris Feomlin in 2007 and is survived by his daughters Donna Coughlin and her husband Clifford of Rouses Point, NY, and Daria Spada of Charleston, SC, his grandchildren Roger Phelts of Cleveland, OH and Janet Crenshaw of Charleston, SC, his sister Claire Scalzo of Whippany, NJ, his brothers Marius Spada of Bayville, NJ and Jules and Marjorie Spada of Florham Park, NJ.
