Janet K. Hoak, 91, of Chatham, passed away on October 15, 2018 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Madison, New Jersey. Janet was born in Newark, New Jersey on November 3, 1926 to Joseph and Mathilde Kempf. She graduated from Columbia High School in 1944, and earned a Bachelors degree from Russell Sage College in 1948. In 1949 she married Frank W. Hoak, and they eventually settled in Chatham in 1956, where they raised their three children. Janet and her husband were passionate about growing organic vegetables and perennials. She also enjoyed horseback riding. Janet was a member and one time Board member of the Environmental Commission, and also a member of the Shade Tree Commission, which focuses on land and park preservation in Chatham. She was also a member of the Ogden Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Predeceased by her husband Frank, Janet is survived by her children and their families, Lorraine Hoak of Chatham, New Jersey, Jennifer Holloway of Princeton, New Jersey and Paul Hoak of Dummerston, Vermont. She is also survived by her sister June Carney of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.
