~~Abelardo “Al” Lopez, Sr., 75, of Whippany passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on September 16, 2015. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel, 75 Ridgedale Ave, in Cedar Knolls on Monday, September 21st at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit at Bradley-Braviak Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Rd in Whippany on Sunday from 4 to 8pm.

Born and raised in Havana, Cuba, the son of Valeriano and Julia Lopez, Al came to the United States in 1962. First settling in Miami, he also lived in Astoria Queens and Chatham before moving to Whippany 40 years ago. Al was a stockroom supervisor at Ciba-Geigy in Summit for 34 years until his retirement in 1998. Prior to that he had worked in Cuba for Cubana Airlines as a Weight and Balance Technician. A certified private pilot, Al loved flying as well as vacationing at the family’s condo in South Beach, Miami. Al will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and his devotion to his family and friends.

Al was the beloved husband of 53 years to Blanca “Blanche”. He was the loving father of Blanche Harty and Abelardo “Al” Lopez, Jr and his wife Denise. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Carlee and Jillian Lopez and Jason Harty as well as many loving relatives.
