Adele Colandrea, 94, of Millburn, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 5, 2020. Born to Polish immigrants, Matthew and Dorothea Hado, she was the youngest of four daughters.
As a lifelong resident of Millburn, Adele was actively involved in the community. As a young girl, she was declared “Miss Millburn of 1933” in a popularity contest sponsored by Warner Brothers. Immediately following her 1943 graduation from Millburn High School, Adele was employed as an administrative assistant for the Millburn Board of Education where she worked for over 3 decades. Her passion for dancing was the catalyst for the 1947 opening of Adele’s Dance School, located in Millburn at the Taylor Park Recreation House.
Throughout her life, Adele enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, attending Broadway shows, playing slot machines in Atlantic City, and spending time with family and friends.
Predeceased by her husband, William, Adele is survived by her devoted daughters, Gayle Mihalko and Ellen Colandrea; son-in-law John Mihalko; loving granddaughter, Fallon Kelly and husband, Bryan, and dear great-grandsons, Talon and Taden.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a gathering at the Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Avenue, Springfield, NJ on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 from 9:30-10:45 a.m. A funeral mass will be offered at 11:15 a.m. that same morning at St. Rose of Lima Church, 50 Short Hills Avenue, Short Hills, NJ. Interment will follow at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery.
