Adeline (Tillie) Marino

Adeline (Tillie) Marino
02/16/1925 - 08/02/2023

Adeline (Tillie) Marino nee Gargione, 98, of Union, entered into eternal rest on August 2, 2023.  She was born in Prignano Cilento, Italy in 1925 to Nicola and Rosa Gargione.  The family immigrated to the United States in 1928 and settled in Newark, N.J.

Adeline attended West Side High School.  She worked into her early 80’s as a Saleswoman/Manager for the Nobby Shop in Union & Linden.

She was a loving, dedicated daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.  She will be remembered as a strong-willed and hard-working woman who dedicated her life to her family.  She was an amazing cook & baker with so many of her recipes being handed down through generations.

In her younger years, Adeline along with her husband, Joseph Marino, loved to entertain, hosting the holidays, and having parties with family and friends.  Making everyone feel welcome, their home was the place everyone wanted to gather.  In addition to cooking and baking, she loved taking care of her home, which she took so much pride in.  She also loved to garden, spending hours on end tending to her various plants and rose bushes.  She had a very special side kick, her pet cockatiel, Lucy.  Staying perched on her shoulder from sunrise to sunset is how Lucy spent her life of 22 years.  Adeline spent her final years loving on her grand fur-babies, Cagney & Lacey, watching her soap operas throughout the day and doing her word search puzzles, that she so loved.

Adeline is survived by her son, Robert Marino, daughter, Lynda Marino Petolino (husband William), three grandchildren, Robert Marino, Dana DelGuercio (husband Adam), Claudia Marino, four great-grandchildren, Gianna, Ryan, Brielle, and Hailey along with many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph Marino of 39 years along with her daughter-in-law, Deborah Marino, siblings, Frank Gargione, Mary Gunnello, Jennie Romanelli, Dolly Minnuies and Edith Lambiase.

Visitation will be held at Bradley, Haeberle and Barth, 1100 Pine Avenue, Union, NJ on Monday, August 7, 2023, from 4-8pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at 10:30am at St. Michael’s Church, 1212 Kelly Street (corner of Vauxhall Road), Union, NJ.  Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.
