Accountant & Ballroom Dancer, 84, Mass is on Thursday
Alan E. Devlin, 84, of Union, NJ, passed peacefully on August 6, 2016. Born in Montclair, NJ raised in Elizabeth where he graduated from Jefferson High School and has lived in Union since 1972. He received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Seton Hall University. Alan was an accountant for many years, but it was ballroom dancing that led him to meet his wife, the late Elizabeth. Together, they became dance instructors, and touched so many lives through lessons and socials at the Staten Island Ballroom Dancers Association; the Governor Morris Hotel in Morristown, NJ and the Progressive studio in Nutley, NJ., they even hosted dance socials and lessons in their home. Alan is pre-deceased by his wife Elizabeth E. Devlin (nee Heelan). He is survived by his nephews, Gregg Jupa, Richard Jupa, James Heelan and his wife Lorraine, and Jeffrey Heelan and his wife, Carmen, and sister-in-law Estelle Heelan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 10:15 am at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Union. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Newark. Visiting hours, Wednesday, 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Bradley Haeberle & Barth Funeral Home, 1100 Pine Ave., Union.
