ALLENE J. (SHRIVER) THEILE

On July 5, 2024 Allene J. Theile of Springfield, NJ passed away peacefully after a brief illness.

Allene was born in Elizabeth, NJ to her late parents, Ernest and Mabel Shriver.  She was also predeceased by her loving husband of 43 years, Julius (Gus) Theile.  Allene was raised in Irvington, NJ and graduated from Irvington High School where she held the prestigious position of Head Drum Majorette for two years.  After High School she was a professional model with the Walter Thornton Agency in New York City.  For several years she was employed in the Liability Department of the Prudential Insurance Co. in Newark.  After marrying and moving to Springfield in 1951, the homemaker and devoted mother, raised her family while also working for 15 years in the Legal Department of Kemper Insurance.

Allene and her family were faithful members of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Millburn for 50 years, during which time she served on the Vestry, as well as President of the Episcopal Church Women and supported the work of the Altar Guild.  She was very active with Springfield’s Senior Citizens – Group II holding the position of President for 20 years, as well as an officer on her neighborhood association.  As an avid knitter many family and friends were honored recipients of her beautiful creations.  In later years, Allene enjoyed traveling to Florida and the companionship of her lifelong friend Frank Geraci.  Recently, reading Daniel Steele novels was her fulltime passion.

Allene is survived by her sons, Robert Theile, Keith Theile and his wife Cheryl, grandson Jeffrey Theile, step-grandsons James Westphal and Erik Westphal.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother John Shriver, and sisters Shirley Van Slyke and Marilyn Litvack.  Allene was especially close to her many nieces and nephews, and will be missed by all of her family and friends for her love, laughter, guidance and faith.  “In our sadness, we are lifted up by the extraordinary gift of her long full life.  And we will spend the rest of ours trying to live up to her example.”

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at 10:30 am at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 119 Main St. Millburn, NJ. Visiting hours, Tuesday, July 9, 2024 from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave. Springfield, NJ. Interment Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, NJ.
