Angela Jochim

Angela Jochim, née Angelina DeSantis, 85, recently of Chatham, New Jersey, passed away on January 8, 2023.  She was born to Domenick and Josephine DeSantis (née Schiraldi) on September 20, 1937, in Brooklyn, New York.  She graduated from Bushwick High School, Fordham College at Lincoln Center, and the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

Angela and Charles W. Scheland, Jr. were married for ten years, and she remained close to her Scheland relatives throughout her life.  She was married to Myron W. Jochim from 1972 until his death in 1992.  She is survived by her children with her first husband, Mark Scheland (Elizabeth) and Carla Forsyth (Frank), six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, her sister Isabella DeSantis, and extended families.

In her professional life Angela ran the bookkeeping for retail businesses including the Nissequogue Golf Club, a printing firm, and several advertising agencies; she later became a media buyer with Saatchi & Saatchi.  She completed her masters degree in forensic psychology, provided services at Maria Droste Counseling Center in Manhattan, and operated Tea & Sympathy Bed and Breakfast in her home in Guilford, NY until 2005.  She loved her last home overlooking Cedar Lake in Denville, NJ, where she resided until 2018.

Angela was an avid traveler, visiting Hawaii, northern California, England, Spain, and Puerto Rico with her second husband.  With her children she ventured to Virginia’s Skyline Drive, New Orleans, and Sedona and to destinations in Austria, Tunisia, Oman, Canada, Germany, and Italy, where she connected in her parents’ hometown, Bitonto, with DeSantis cousins and their children and extended families.  She crossed the Atlantic twice from England on the QEII.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy R.C. Church in Forest Hills, NY, on Friday, January 20, at 10:30am.  The Church will live stream the Mass and you may access it from www.bradleyfuneralhomes.com.   Angela will be interred at Cypress Hills Cemetery.

Memorial donations in her name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
