Ann Carty, age 93 of New Providence, New Jersey, joined her loving husband, Gene, in heaven on Wednesday July 21, 2021. Ann was born in New York City on October 16th, 1927 to the late Frank and Elizabeth (Lillis) Gilleece.
Ann will be lovingly remembered by her three children Lisa (Bill) of Chevy Chase, Maryland, Stephen (Makiko) of Short Hills, New Jersey, and David of Hoboken, New Jersey and her seven grandchildren; Elizabeth, Sarah, Monica, Mia, Caroline, Max and Marge. She will also be dearly missed by her friends at the Lantern Hill Retirement Community in New Providence.
Ann, a graduate of Hunter College, resided in New York City for many years before moving to Sparta, New Jersey and later living in Summit, New Jersey and Hilton Head, South Carolina. She was a life-long educator, starting her career as a 5th grade teacher in Hastings-on-the-Hudson, New York in 1952. Over a more than 35 year career she taught in public schools in New York City and Sparta, New Jersey. She pursued advanced certification in special education and was a committed advocate for her students and an active member of the teaching community. Having spent part of her childhood in Ireland, Ann treasured her Irish heritage and traveled there frequently later in life, remaining in close touch with her extended family.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:45 on Tuesday, July 27th at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 306 Morris Avenue, Summit, NJ 07901 preceded by a viewing and prayer service from 5 PM to 7 PM on Monday, July 26th at the Bradley, Brough & Dangler Funeral Home in Summit, 299 Morris Avenue, Summit, NJ 07901.
