Ann Daly peacefully passed onto her eternal rest while at home in Green Village on June 1, 2024, after a grateful and fully-lived life. She was 94.
Survived by her brother, Jack Gallagher, her three children; David, Deidre, and Doreen, son-in-law, William Grady, her granddaughters; Claire Marden(Dan) and Sarah Grady, and her great-grandsons; Ciaran William Marden and Declan Charles Marden, she also leaves a cherished and loving circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends from each of the many chapters of her life.
Born in New York City on August 25th, 1929 to Brigid and Daniel Gallagher, Ann attended James Monroe High School in the Bronx. She worked for Rockefeller Center, Inc. in Manhattan before marrying in 1955 and moving to New Jersey. Ann lived in the same home in Union, NJ for 60 years, raising her family and working at Kean College, which she retired from in 1995.
Ann remained close with her childhood friends from the Bronx, with whom she shared many joys and sorrows throughout their lives. She also loved to travel with friends, and did so extensively, having visited China, the former Soviet Union, South America, the Middle East, and many European countries.
Her Catholic faith and spirituality were an essential and enduring source of comfort and strength throughout Ann’s life. She was a longtime parishioner at Holy Spirit Church in Union and actively participated in various prayer and bible study groups. After moving to Green Village in 2018, Ann was a parishioner of the Church of Christ the King in New Vernon and enjoyed participating in Harding Seniors activities.
Most of all, Ann was first and foremost focused on her family. Reflective of her Depression-era childhood experiences, Ann was a powerful role model as a tough-minded but loving mother who strived to respond to life’s challenges and trials with unflinching honesty, hard work, thrift, and faith.
