Anthony J. Combias

Anthony J. Combias, 95, of Summit, NJ, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2023. Tony was born on November 7th, 1927 to John and Anastasia Combias, immigrants from Greece, who settled in Summit in 1905. He graduated from Summit High School in 1945, where he excelled as an athlete. Nicknamed “Scooch”, Tony was a member of the varsity football, baseball, and track teams. After high school, he departed for Providence, RI to attend Brown University. His studies were interrupted in 1946, when he enrolled in the US Army. Tony served in Italy at the tail end of World War II. He returned to Brown after 11 months abroad and completed his studies. Ten days after graduating, Tony joined J.P. Stevens, a textile manufacturing company, where he would become the head of the shirting division, and where he remained for his entire 42 year career. Tony met his wife Marie in 1954. They were married on February 27th, 1955. Tony and Marie went on to have 3 children, Lorie, John, and Jimmy. Tony was known for his love of family, church, the City of Summit, New York sports (in particular the Yankees and the Giants), and for his rackets prowess on both the paddle and tennis courts. Tony will be remembered for his creativity, sarcastic and affable sense of humor, his love of Marie’s Greek cooking, and his cigars. He is survived by his wife Marie; daughter Lorie and her husband Tom; son John and his wife Lilly; son Jimmy; and 8 grandchildren, Brian, Tanner, Christina, Greg, Emily, Alexandra, Christina, and Maria.

Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday April 25, 2023 at the Bradley, Brough & Dangler Funeral Home, 299 Morris Ave, Summit, NJ.  A reception will be held after a private funeral service at 12:30 on Wednesday April 26, 2023 at Beacon Hill Club, 250 Hobart Ave, Summit, NJ.
