Anthony J. Petescia
10/07/1928 - 08/13/2024

Anthony J. Petescia, a long-time resident of Union, passed away passed away at Mountainside Rehabilitation Center on August 13, 2024.  He was 95.

Born in Newark to the late Antoinetta and Joseph Petescia, Anthony joined the US Army upon his high school graduation from East Side High and served for 2 years before his honorable discharge.  He then had a long career with SeaLand Shipping in Elizabeth as a Supervisor and Consultant.

An avid reader who never stopped learning, he loved to play cards and board games, especially poker and Trivial Pursuit.  He loved road trips, especially to New England, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.  He and his wife took a memorable trip to Amsterdam and Italy to celebrate their 25th anniversary.  He enjoyed vacations in Ortley Beach with family.  Even though he wasn’t a beach lover, he made the annual trip for decades.

Anthony also loved music, especially jazz, Broadway show tunes and Sinatra.  He also enjoyed shopping and took pride in dressing well.

But he loved nothing more than sitting at a table surrounded by loved ones with a big bowl of pasta, glass of wine, finished with as many desserts as possible and a great cup of coffee.  He enjoyed the good food, good conversation and good memories.  He was a self-made man who was devoted to his family.  Any interests he had revolved around his beloved wife, his girls, extended family and cherished friends.

He was the beloved husband for 66 years to the late Rose Maria Petescia.  He was the loving father of Donna (Petescia) Coyne and her husband Don Keith of Portland, OR and Diane Petescia of Union.  He is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, 3 great-grand nieces and 3 godchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph L. Petescia.
