Anthony Sawka

Anthony Sawka, 91, of Cedar Knolls, NJ passed peacefully on December 4, 2024. Born in Morristown, NJ, raised in Whippany, NJ. Anthony was a 1951 graduate of Morristown High School. He served proudly in the U.S. Army Korean War during Peacetime from 1954-1956.  Anthony worked in the auto part department for Longo Pontiac and Screbo Pontiac for over 30 years.  He donated his time to the boy scouts, receiving the Order of the Arrow and the Pelican Awards. Anthony enjoyed playing ball for many years on the Veterans and Scerbo ball teams.

Anthony is pre-deceased by his parents, Anthony & Mary Kranick Sawka and his wife of over 64 years, Herlean C. Sawka (nee Kurz). He was the loving father of Tony, Greg, Doug and Sharon Schneyer (Bill), his cherished grandchildren, Michael, Matthew (Amanda), Jennifer (Justin) and Thomas, great-grandchildren, Maverick, Clayton & Olivia. He was the youngest of 8 children and pre-deceased by Ann, John, Katherine, Harry, Helen, Andrew & Nancy.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at 10 am at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Church, 60 North Jefferson Ave., Whippany, NJ. Visiting hours, Wednesday, December 11th, from 3 to 6 pm., with Parastas at 5:30 pm. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Whippany, NJ.
