Captain Arnaldo E. Tassinari, 92, of Short Hills, New Jersey passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Inglemoor Care Center, Livingston, NJ surrounded by his loved ones.

Arnaldo was born on March 18, 1927 in Genoa, Italy. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Adolfo and Eugenia (nee Trucchi) Tassinari. Aldo graduated top of his class at The Christopher Columbus nautical school, Genoa, Italy.

Aldo was the founder, owner and CEO of Southern Cross Marine Services, a company he founded after decades at sea and in the maritime business.

He was a member of The Old Guard of Summit and was very active in the Associazione Liguri nel Mondo Bocce Club. Aldo enjoyed playing the piano and listening to opera music, was an avid reader and loved painting.

Arnaldo was predeceased by his beloved wife Barbara L. Tassinari in 1987. He was the loving Papa of daughters; Barbara M. Papetti, Eugenia F. Franzo (James) and Claudia R. Fontaine (Peter) and cherished Nonno of Anthony, Christina and Nicole Papetti, James, Joseph, and Mia Marie Franzo, and Jacqueline and Diana Fontaine. In addition, he is survived by his long-time partner, Dita Schultz.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2019 from 5-9 pm at Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Avenue, Springfield, NJ 07081. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am on Friday, May 24, 2019 at the Church of Annunciation, 80 Main Street, Bloomsbury, NJ 08804. An interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arnaldo’s memory to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
