Arne Axel Kellstrom

May 10, 1927 – December 22, 2015

Arne, of Morristown, NJ, died peacefully at age 88 surrounded by his family. His last tee time was 11:43 am on December 22nd.

Arne was born on May 10, 1927 in New York City of Swedish and Finnish immigrant parents. He was very proud of his heritage. Arne graduated as valedictorian of Plainfield High School, Central Valley, CT and then went on to Worchester Polytechnic Institute where he earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.

May 16, 1957, Arne married Christine McDowell Kellstrom and started his family. Together his family moved throughout the country as Arne marched up the ranks of Ingersoll Rand. After a 35-year career, Arne and Cris moved to Singapore in 1984 where he pioneered a branch office for Hoerbiger Ventilwerke A.G.. Three years later, he became an executive of Ariel Corporation, also establishing a global presence for Ariel. Cris and Arne traveled all over Asia and ended in Belgium and Houston before returning to Morristown, NJ to be near their children and grandchildren.

Arne was an athlete for all of his life. He skied every winter weekend with his family and continued taking numerous ski trips with his children and grandchildren, even up into his late 80’s (56 years straight). He was a member of the “85 +” ski club. Arne took up running in the 70’s and twice completed the NYC Marathon. He transitioned to biking and became an avid cyclist. Cris and Arne took bike trips all over the United States and in various countries from Mexico to Sweden. Arne was also an avid golfer. A long-time member of the Morris County Golf Club where he shot his age at 85! He was proud of winning the Father-Son Golf Tournament (gross and net winner with his sons Mark and Todd in the same year). He was a member of the NY University Club.

Arne valued an intellectual conversation, a fun party, a good laugh and friendship.

Arne is survived by his beloved wife Cris and his beloved dog Rocky. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law Emmy and Dwight Stocker of Greenwich, CT and their sons Andrew, Henry and Dwight and his son and daughter-in-law Mark and Cathy Kellstrom of Chatham, NJ and their children Kirsten, Lindsey, Mark Jr. and Michael and his son and daughter-in-law Todd and Anne Kellstrom of Wurtsboro, NY and their daughter Melanie.

A Memorial Service will take place Thursday, January 7th, 11 a.m., at Grace Episcopal Church, 4 Madison Avenue, Madison, NJ 07940; 973-377-0106.
