Arne Swenson, of Summit, died at Manor Care Nursing Home in New Providence on December 21, 2011. He was 81.
Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Swenson was raised in Morris County and New York City.
Mr. Swenson ended up settling in New Jersey and has enjoyed a full life in Summit for the past 35 years.
Mr. Swenson served with the US Army, 4405 65th Mach Rec Unit, in Germany from 1951 until his honorable discharge as a Corporal in 1954.
Mr. Swenson received his BS in Business Administration from the University of Denver in 1957. He later attended Northwestern University, doing some Masters coursework there.
He worked at Prudential Insurance for 14 years as manager of printing operations in New Providence.
Mr. Swenson loved the outdoors, spending time hiking and camping. He also enjoyed playing tennis and chess and photography. He had attended Central Presbyterian Church and the Unitarian Church, both of Summit.
He is survived by his beloved wife Sandra Swenson of Summit. He was the loving father of Linnea Murakami and her husband Gary of New Providence and Ingrid Swenson of San Francisco. Cherished step-father of Jocelyn Clapp Ozolins and family of Orient, NY and Robin Clapp and family of Anderslov, Sweden. Devoted brother of Kaj Swenson and family of Bethlehem, PA and Greta Malings and family of Levittown, NY.
