42 Year Volunteer with Chatham Fire Department

Arthur L. Van Riper III, “Art”, age 73, passed away February 24th at Lehigh Valley Hospital. Born in Orange, NJ, he was the son of the late Arthur L. Van Riper, Jr. and Alice (Colgan) Van Riper. He worked at Public Service in Newark while attending New Jersey Institute of Technology. Following his graduation with a degree in mechanical engineering, he continued to work in the power industry. Art lived in Chatham, NJ for 42 years before moving to Bethlehem, PA. During his time in Chatham, he became a firefighter with the Chatham Borough Fire Department. He leaves behind his best friend and devoted wife, Jean (Delavan) Van Riper; his loving daughters Heather Van Riper and Susan Rembetsy; sons-in-law, Mike Noorman, and Michael Rembetsy; and two special little boys, his grandsons, Christopher and Tyler Rembetsy. A Celebration of his life will be held at noon on, Saturday, March 12th at the Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St. Chatham. Family will receive friends before the service from 10am to noon. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Art’s name may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908 or Victory Junction Gang Camp for Children, 4500 Adams Way, Randleman, NC. 27317.
