Assunta Fusco
02/03/1941 - 06/26/2023

Assunta Fusco (nee Viola), 82 of Summit, NJ passed away peacefully on Monday, June 26, 2023, at home with her family by her side.

Assunta was born in Torrecuso, Italy on February 3, 1941, to Agostino and Carmela (nee Martaruolo) Viola. In 1963, she married her husband of 60 years, Michael Fusco. A short time later, they immigrated to the United States and settled in Summit where they raised their family.

Assunta spent her career working in the bakery department at the local Kings Supermarket. Always on her feet and ready to help, she was recognized for her incredible work ethic, diligence, and boundless energy by colleagues and customers. After 25 years, she retired to focus on her life’s greatest passion – being a full-time Nonna to her four grandchildren.

Assunta was best known for ability to nurture her friends and family through food. She made everyone feel welcome to pull a seat up to her table, where she would share stories, traditions, and wisdom. She would cook five-star versions of any dish with just a few simple ingredients (and no recipe, of course). Most importantly, she brought joy to all those around her beyond making sure no one ever left her presence hungry.

Assunta is survived by her beloved husband Michael Fusco; loving daughters Carmela (David) Farrell and Patricia (Chuck) Wissen; dear grandchildren Natalie Farrell, Michael Farrell, Charlie Wissen, and Katie Wissen; and many longtime family and friends. She is predeceased by her sister Anna (nee Viola) Fusco and brother Angelo Viola.

The visitation will be held at Bradley, Brough & Dangler Funeral Home on Morris Avenue in Summit, NJ on Thursday, June 29th from 4 to 8 PM. A Funeral mass will be held at 9:30 AM at St. Teresa’s of Avila Church on Friday, June 30th at 9:30AM followed by interment at St. Teresa of Avila Cemetery.
