ISRAEL–Audrey nee Hollander, age 99, of Morristown, NJ, on February 3, 2012. She was born in New York City on April 24, 1912 to Ruth Rosenfield Hollander and Barnett Hollander, Esq.
Her mother was an heiress of the Sunnybrook Distillery and her father practiced law in New York City, London and Paris. Mrs. Israel was educated at St. Hillaries School in Sussex, England and continued her studies in Florence, Rome, and at the Sorbonne in Paris.
She was an accomplished portrait photographer. She was a lifelong volunteer including stints as a medical photographer at Cornell Medical School in the mid-1930’s, a nurses aide during World War II in a military hospital, a Girl Scout photographer in Summit, NJ, a library volunteer and sorter for the VNA rummage sales in Far Hills, NJ.
Besides strong love for her family, her passions included gardening, skiing and ice skating. She married Leon Israel, Jr. in 1935 who died in 1981. Mr. Israel was president of Leon Israel & Bros., a family owned green coffee import and export company and later was Chairman of the Board of ACLI International, a privately held commodities company. Mrs. Israel is survived by two daughters, Judith Heidkamp of Scottsdale, Arizona and Carol Allen of Baltimore, Maryland and six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
