Barbara J. “Bonnie” Morano, 67, of Springfield, New Jersey passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017 at her home after a six year fight with ALS.

Bonnie was born on November 11, 1949 in Jersey City, New Jersey. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Leroy and Mrs. Alice (nee Daugherty) Wassong of Kearny, NJ.

She was a graduate of Jersey City State where she earned a degree in art education. She worked as an art teacher for Horace Mann Elementary, Bayonne, NJ and Kent Place, Summit, NJ throughout her near 40 year teaching career. At Horace Mann, she served as the director of the school Opera. She listened to classical music daily and supported the public arts. Bonnie was an artist who excelled through painting with watercolors. She was awarded 2nd place in the 2015 Senior Citizens Art Show of New Jersey in addition to winning multiple awards at the Union County Art Show. She was an avid reader and book club member who helped illustrate a children’s book for a close friend. In her spare time, she enjoyed being outside in nature and tending to her flowers and her garden.

Bonnie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Thomas Morano and brother, Roy Wassong. She was the loving mother of son, Jake Morano and daughter, Megan Florio and husband Steve Florio. She is survived by her siblings; Dwight, Kevin, Kirk, Candice, Shelly, Robin and Bryan.

A celebration of life will be held in her honor on Sunday, August 20, 2017, from 12-5 at Reeves Reed Arboretum, 165 Hobart Avenue, Summit. Any contributions made will go directly to support ALS patients and their families in their own fight with ALS.
