Barbara Regina Dittemer, 75, of Union, New Jersey passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family.

Barbara was born on December 4, 1939 in Staten Island, New York. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Anthony and Mary (nee Turon) Ostrowski.

Barbara was a 1961 graduate of Notre Dame College in Staten Island, NY and also studied at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She worked as a French teacher for several years and more recently as a furniture resource librarian for Arbee Associates in Union, NJ.

She was a long time parishioner of St. Michael’s Church, Union, NJ where she was very active over the years. She was a Columbiette with the Knights of Columbus, #4504. Barbara was a Benedictan oblate at the St. Walburga Monastery in Elizabeth, NJ. She was a member of the St. Michael’s Seniors Club and acted as an officer throughout the years. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her family and taking trips. Barbara also loved to garden.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frederick in 2006. She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Matrale and her husband Phil; a son, John Dittemer and wife Cristina. She was the cherished grandmother of Lauren, Julie and Carissa Matrale and John and Anthony Dittemer. She is also survived by her siblings; brother, Daniel “Doc” Ostrowski and sisters; Emily Ostrowski and Alice Healy. She was predeceased by her siblings; Lillian, Stanley, Edward, Benjamin, and John.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. & 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bradley, Haeberle & Barth Funeral Home, 1100 Pine Ave., Union, NJ 07083. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:15 a.m. on Monday, August 3, 2015 at St. Michael’s Church, 1212 Kelly Street, Union, NJ 07083. An interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to St. Walburga Monastery
