~~Benedetto Jerome, 92, of Union passed away on May 22, 2016. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael the Archangel, 1212 Kelly St. in Union on Wednesday, May 25th at 10:15am. Entombment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit at Bradley, Haeberle & Barth Funeral Home, 1100 Pine Ave in Union on Tuesday from 4 to 8pm.
Born and raised in Elizabeth, the son of James and Michaelina Jerome, Ben had also lived in Roselle before moving to Union in 1958. He attended the Newark College of Engineering. Benedetto proudly served his country in the Navy during WWII. While in the Navy he boxed to help earn money for War Bonds. Ben apprenticed and worked for many years at Singer Corporation in Elizabeth. After a brief stint at Elastic Stop Nut in Union, he joined Airco Inc. also in Union, as a draftsman. He retired in 1984.
Ben boxed professionally for a brief time in the 1940’s. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing pool. After retirement he became talented in the craft of working with stained glass.
Ben was the beloved husband of 63 years to Janet. He was the loving father of Barbara J. Diess and her husband Terry of Verona, Michael E. Jerome and his wife Maryann of Toms River, Curtis L. Jerome of Toms River and Thomas A. Jerome and his wife Denise of Barnegat. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Christopher Jerome and his wife Alicia, Alicia Jerome, William Jerome, Michelle Jerome, Gina Jerome and Maria Jerome, great grandson Nicholas Jerome, brothers; Ralph Jerome and his wife Gloria of Linden and James Jerome and his wife Marion of Cape Coral, FL. He is predeceased by his grandson Robert Diess, brothers, Frank, Joe, and Armand Jerome, and sister Dolly Jerome.
