Berdine Groel, of New Vernon, NJ passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his adoring children on Sunday, January 24.
Born in Orange, NJ and raised in West Orange, NJ, Berdine had also lived in Short Hills, NJ before moving to New Vernon in 1968. He graduated from Princeton University in 1957 and Columbia University Graduate School of Business in 1959.
Berdine began his career at Teachers Insurance, NY, was a Vice-President in the Global Finance Department at Goldman Sachs & Co., NY and a Managing Director at Wm Sword & Co., Princeton, NJ.
He was a longtime member of The First Presbyterian Church of New Vernon, where he served as an Elder. Until his death, he was a devoted member of the Princeton Class of 1957 and served in a wide variety of positions, including Class President and Reunion Chair. He was also a member of Princeton’s Service of Remembrance Committee and the Annual Giving Committee.
Berdine was predeceased by his beloved wife Susan. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer G. Beimfohr (Douglas); son, Frederick C. Groel (Pinelopi); grandchildren, Margaret, Emily, Katharine, Lucy, Maxwell and Christopher; and sister, Marjory Ward (James).
A memorial service will be held at The First Presbyterian Church of New Vernon, 2 Lee’s Hill Road, New Vernon, on Saturday, February 6 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The First Presbyterian Church of New Vernon or the Princeton Class of 1957 Classmate Fund, c/o Classmate Fund President, Sheppard H.C.
