Bernard J. “Jack” Carroll, Jr., 85, of Short Hills, New Jersey passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

Jack was born on November 12, 1931 in East Orange, NJ and raised in Maplewood, NJ. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bernard J. and Genevieve E. (nee Calt) Carroll.

He was a graduate of Columbia High School, Maplewood, NJ and Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, PA where he was a member of Chi Phi fraternity. Jack spent 35 years working for IBM Corporation as a Marketing Manager.

Jack served in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he was stationed in Germany. He was a long-time parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church, Short Hills, NJ. He was an avid fan of the NY Giants, NY Yankees, and a Seton Hall basketball supporter.

He enjoyed playing golf, spending summers in Bay Head, NJ and spending winters in Jupiter, FL.

Jack is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gerry (McDonough) Carroll. He was the loving father of Laurie Clark (Jim), Kristin Engel (Bob), Brian Carroll, and Dan Carroll. He was the cherished Pop of Patrick, Justin, Kelsey, Matthew, and Jackie. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Mary Lou Hemmingway and her children David and Jennifer.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at St. Rose of Lima Church, 50 Short Hills Avenue, Short Hills, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed in his name to the American Heart Association.
