Bernard R. Cadden, 90, of Lake Hopatcong, formerly of Springfield, NJ, passed away on June 28, 2022. A Funeral service will be held at Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave. in Springfield on Friday, July 1st at 11am. Interment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, June 30th from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9pm.
Born in Newark, the son of Bernard and Marie (Landers) Cadden, Bernie was also raised in Irvington. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. Bernie spent his entire career with the Irvington Fire Department, retiring as Lieutenant. He was First Vice President with the Union County Emerald Society, was a State Licensed Fire Official and was a member of the NJ Firefighters Relief Association and the Irvington Firefighters Relief Association. In his spare time, Bernie enjoyed travel and cruises, boating on Lake Hopatcong, and spending time with family and friends.
Bernie was the beloved husband of 54 years to the late Elaine Cadden. He was the loving father of Lynn Breitner, Diane McGovern and her husband Michael, and the late Janet Forgino. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Kyle, Erin, and Kayla McGovern, his dear brother, Robert Cadden and his wife Rosanne, and his brother in law Richard Teague.
