Bohdanna Hnatkowsky, 96, died peacefully on Saturday June 18, 2022. Bohdanna was born on June 1, 1926 in Lviv Ukraine to Yaroslav and Ivanna (Yarosewycz) Skoplak.
After escaping Ukraine from the Red Army during the Second World War, she ended up like many other Ukrainians, in a Displaced Persons camp in Germany, where she met her future husband Volodymyr Hnatkowsky. She emigrated to the US with her mother and grandmother in 1949 and married Volodymyr on March 10, 1956. On November 20, 1957, they welcomed their daughter Volodymyra in Cleveland Ohio. They eventually moved to Bayside Queens, NY where Bohdanna enjoyed hosting gatherings big and small with friends and family. Ukrainian history, language and culture were paramount to Bohdanna. She ensured to pass down her Ukrainian traditions and family history to her daughter and grandchildren. Bohdanna will be remembered for her story telling and witty jokes.
Bohdanna is survived by her daughter Volodymyra and son-in-law Stefan Hankewycz as well as her grandson Roman Hankewycz and wife Melanie; and granddaughter Adrianna Knihnicky and husband Alexander; and four beloved great-grandsons Damian, Daniel, Maksym and Matthew.
