Bruce M. Swenson, 68, of Union, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston. Born and raised in Minnesota, Bruce enlisted in the US Army right after high school. He served for 3 years during the Vietnam War, and was stationed in Korea for 13 months. Upon his return, he met his future wife Lorraine (Interdonato) at Port Belvoir, and they married in 1969. They settled in Union, where they’ve lived for 38 years. Bruce was a tractor trailer driver for over 38 years, retiring from Penske Trucking (A&P). he was a member of the American Legion Post #35, and the Teamsters, Local 863. Bruce enjoyed playing bocce ball, gardening and driving. Known for his love and care for animals, and feeding the birds, he was considered the St. Francis of Vauxhall Rd.
Predeceased by his parents, Amy and Bertel, and sisters Sharon Smith , Roberta Linstrom, and Janice Erpenbach; Bruce is survived by his wife Lorraine, brother Roger of St. Michael, MN; brother in law Donald Interdonato and his wife Jacqueline; several nieces, nephews and their families. Bruce will also be missed by his beloved cats, Samantha and Jake.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 10:15am at St. Michael’s Church, 1212 Kelly St., Union. Cremation will follow at Rosedale Crematory, Orange.
