Carlos Guillermo De Leon, of East Orange, passed away on June 12, 2023, surrounded by his grandchildren, daughters, wife, sisters, and brothers. He was 71.
Born in Guatemala on February 10, 1952, Carlos was a multi professional. He initiated his own leather belt business in Guatemala. When Carlos arrived in the United States in 1991, he started his first job in a factory making umbrellas. He rapidly moved into his second job sewing children’s clothes. Then he proceeded to work for a drapery company where he took the lead to cut and design upscale home draperies for many years. When his vision started to dimension, Carlos moved onto a building Superintendent in East Orange, NJ for 20 years until retiring in 2019.
Carlos enjoyed day trips, listening to music, playing instruments and DJing, hosting his own parties. Carlos also enjoyed fixing cars, upgrading vehicle sound systems and teaching home remodeling. Carlos was bright, innovative, multitasker and always determined to resolve any task. Carlos had many roles during his life, but his favorite role was being a grandfather, he was best known as Memo. He was always there for them to offer his love, attend special occasions or host his grandchildren. Memo was very proud of his grandchildren’s achievements, always attending sports and school activities.
Carlos was survived by his wife Rosa, daughters Ericka, Monica, and Evelyn and her husband Michael. Step-father to Ana, Karla, Mahudiel, and Jonas, brothers, Ovidio, Gabriel, Israel, Sisters Elvia, Victoria, and 10 Grandchildren: Robert, Alexandria, Jessica, Martha, Carlos, AnaLuisa, Kayla, William, Brianna, and Lucas.
