Catherine (Kay) E Rittweger (maiden name Goehring), 95 years old of the Chathams passed peacefully at her home from a short illness on December 27, 2021. Born in Newark, NJ and grew up in Hillside NJ. Moved to Chatham where she and her husband Ed raised their four children. Kay was a devoted Catholic and attended Mass daily. She was a parishioner of St. Patrick’s and founding member of Corpus Christi Church. Kay was an active member of the Saint Matthews Society of Corpus Christi.

Kay worked for Hahne’s Department Store in Livingston for ten years in the Customer Service Department. She was President of Control Set Co. She oversaw the operation until her passing. Kay was a founding charter member of Minisink Swim and Tennis Club and was active playing tennis and paddle tennis. Kay was known for her baking and cooking skills, her apple pie and brownies were sought after any family function by all. Her leg of lamb was unmatched in taste. One of Kays skills was knitting, she prided herself with knitting a wool sweater for each member of the family. Kay loved to play and watch all sports, always asking what football game was on the TV, or tennis match. Skiing and ice skating were two of Kay’s passions. Being outside on a crisp cold day was a place she enjoyed. Other passions were painting, going to the shore, sailing, biking, shopping and travel with her circle of friends. Kay was very patriotic, who loved her country. She made sure her American flag was always displayed, and she loved to wear red, white and blue.

Kay is pre-deceased by her husband of 60 years, the late Edwin Leo Rittweger, her son Edwin Leo Rittweger Jr, and her brother Bernard Edward Goehring. She is survived by her three daughters, Jean Hart and her deceased husband Frank J. Hart, Mary Reynolds and her husband John Reynolds, Anne Rendina and her husband John Rendina. Grandmother of Glenn, Catherine, Meagan, John, Tom, James and Jack. Great-grandmother to Kyle, Mary, Tommy, Milo and Jasper, three nephews, two nieces, Charles, David and Hai, Mary and Elizabeth.

A Gathering will be held on Monday, January 3, 2021 from 10:15 to 11 am at Corpus Christi Church, 234 Southern Blvd. Chatham Township, NJ, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am.
