Charles K. Meuse
11/21/1950 - 12/23/2024

Charles K. Meuse of Chatham, NJ died on December 23, 2024.  He was 74 years old.

Born in Boston, “Chuck” was raised in Metuchen, NJ where he attended St. Francis Grammar School and St. Joseph’s High School.  He attended Colgate University and graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude, with Honors in History in 1972.  He was a 1975 graduate of Cornell Law School and practiced law in the State of Delaware, where he served as Assistant Attorney General, and in New Jersey as an associate and partner in private practice.  A courtroom litigator for forty-one years, he was Senior Litigation Counsel for CNA Insurance at the time of his retirement from the bars of New Jersey, Delaware, and New York.

He is survived by Marian Maguire Meuse, his loving wife of 44 years; by his three children Kevin Francis of New York, Catherine Meuse Sanford (Sean) of Wakefield, MA, and Neil Heslin of Hoboken; as well as by his brother John William Meuse (Linda) of Princeton and by his sister Cynthia Katherine Lozak (Craig) of Williamsburg, VA, and by nieces and nephews.

Chuck was a long term volunteer Law Reader for the Recording For The Blind organization in Princeton, NJ, and was also a volunteer telephonic news reader for EYES of New Jersey of South Orange.  He was an avid reader of history, having researched and written his Honors Thesis in the British Museum in London, and he enjoyed a lifelong educational hobby of recording audio and video news broadcasts (“history in the making”) since 1965.  He possessed an abiding interest in and thorough memory for classic rock from the sixties.  He will be remembered for providing hundreds of DVDs of his children’s grammar school basketball games to coaches, parents and team members over the years.  He applied his 40 years of legal writing experience as the primary draftsman of a comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan for that school.

Chuck will be remembered as a quiet, thoughtful man with an unrelenting sense of humor, whose greatest pleasure was his family, traveling and dinners with Marian, and walking his three young children to the local playgrounds and sunny fields on beautiful mornings in Chatham.  Characteristically, his abiding advice was “Don’t miss out on being a parent.”
