Constance Conza Cappeto


Constance Cappeto (nee Conza), passed peacefully on May 8, 2013. A Celebration of her life was held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Bradley Haeberle & Barth Funeral Home in Union. Mrs. Cappeto was laid to rest at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union. Constance was born in East Orange to Michael and Irene Rossi Conza. her father opened a pharmacy in Summit and brought his family there. Constance attneded the Summit Schools and also the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts in Newark. She was a teller for the Summit Trust Company for many years. During WWII, she was a Zone Air Raid Warden and worked on the Draft Board. In 1944, Miss Conza married Lt. Commander James J. Cappeto. After the War, Dr. Cappeto opend his dental office in Union where they raised their three children. Mrs. Cappeto was a Dem Mother for Cub Scout Troop 169 for six years and a Leader for Boy Scout Troop 69 for seven years. She was a Brownie Leader and a Girl Scout Leader for seven years each and a Coordinator between the Parish Girl Scout Troops and the Newark Diocese. in the 1950’s, Mrs. Cappeto started the Mother’s Auxiliary of the Boy Scout Troops of St. Michael’s School. Mrs. Cappeto was the Secretary and President of the Rosary Confraternity of St. Michael’s Parish and Regent of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Immaculate Heart of Mary #1360. Mrs. Cappeto was name by the Parish to the First Pastoral Council and became Secretary. During her time, Mrs. Cappeto was also an Art Teacher in St. Michael’ School. The Union Township Rotary Club made Mrs. Cappeto a Paul Harris Fellow, the highest award prresented by the Rotary Clubs. When Dr. Cappeto retired in 1980, they moved to their home at Indian Lake in Denville, NJ. There she was a six term Treasurer and two term President of the Year Rounders Club of the Indian Lake Community. Dr. Cappeto passed away in 1989. After his passing, Mrs. Cappeto was on the Board of Directors of the Retired Officers Association at Picatinny Arsenal, acting as Treasurer of the Scholarship Funds and many othr fundraising events. Mrs. Cappeto leaves three loving children, Atley James of Middletown, NJ, Michael Arnold of New York City and Norma Ann Kania Hornumg of Clinton, NJ.
