Daniel (Danylo) Zawadiwskyi, 91, of Mendham Township, NJ passed away on November 22, 2023. Visitation will be at Bradley-Bravick Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Rd. in Whippany on Friday, November 24th 5-8 pm. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 60 N. Jefferson Ave. in Whippany, NJ on Saturday, November 25th at 9:30 am. Burial will follow at St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery in South Bound Brook.
Born in Zolota Sloboda, Ukraine, the son of Mychajlo and Dominicellia (Iwaskiw), Danylo and his family immigrated to the United States after World War II. After graduating high school he joined the United States Army where he worked as a linguist due to his knowledge of multiple languages. He also played soccer for the United States Army where he was given the name “Zoom-Zoom Zawadiwskyi”. He returned to Buffalo, NY where he attended college and shortly after began work in the Engineering Department at General Motors where he was given the name “Danny Z”. While working full-time as an engineer he was a partner at a tool and die shop where his knowledge of design and production provided him unique opportunities after retirement from General Motors. Danylo proudly worked in his profession until 82 years of age. In his early years he was a member of the Plast Ukrainian Scouting Organization where he spent much time helping develop the Ukrainian Plast Camp Novij Sokil in North Collins, NY. Danylo’s passion was his family.
Danylo was the beloved husband of 63 years to Doreen “Daria”. He was the loving father of Diane Zablonski (James), Christine McDaniel (John) and Michael Zawadiwskyi (Alexandra). He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Nicholas Zablonski (Whitney), Katherine Flasher (Jordan), Mark Zawadiwskyi, Damian McDaniel, Deanna Zawadiwskyi, Christopher McDaniel and Nicholas Zawadiwskyi and his great grandchildren, Parker, Lillianna, Makenna, and Jack as well as many loving nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister, Sophia Holowatyj (the late Lubomyr).
