David Charles Cannon

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Charles Cannon, who left this world on September 30, 2024, at the age of 87, after a life defined by dedication, love, and service. David, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and great-grandfather, was a pillar of strength in the community of Florham Park, where he proudly served as a Police Sergeant for 25 years.

In addition to his law enforcement service, David proudly served in the Army National Guard, representing an unwavering dedication to his country and fellow citizens. He was a man of honor, resilience, and service, and these traits have left a deep impact on all who knew him.

Born with a passion for sports, David excelled in baseball as a talented pitcher after high school. He carried this love for the game into adulthood, sharing it with others as a coach for the Whippany Girls Softball team, where he inspired countless young athletes. Alongside baseball, David’s enthusiasm extended to golf, where many will remember his infectious laughter and competitive spirit on the course.

David is predeceased by his beloved son, Gary Cannon; his sister-in-law, Lee Neal; and his cherished grandson, Steven Zecca. Their memories remain a guiding light for those he leaves behind.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Gale Cannon, with whom he shared a loving marriage for 64 wonderful years. Together, they nurtured their family, which includes their two children, Debra Fiory of Penn Argyl, PA and Glenn Cannon of Chester, NJ. His legacy lives on through his five grandchildren, Jacob, Dana, Justine and Glenn and four great-grandchildren, who will forever carry his teachings, humor, and warmth within their hearts.

David’s life was a testament to the values of service, compassion, and commitment to family and community. His unwavering dedication to his role as a police sergeant and in the lives of those he loved will forever resonate. He will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but for the love and laughter he brought to everyone around him.
