Deane “Deano” William Elmblad, 86 of Madison, NJ, passed peacefully on December 25, 2023. Born in Succasunna, NJ, raised in Chatham Township, attended Southern Boulevard School.  A graduate of Chatham High School where he was a star athlete having gained the accolades of being an all-state athlete in both soccer and basketball. Deane served proudly in the U.S. Army/Reserves from 1955-1963. He was the Fire Official for Chatham Borough involved with building and real estate inspections, prior to that he worked for PSE&G and Vandercook, New York, building and assembling printing presses. He was a member of the Chatham Fire Department for 60 years. He was 1st Deputy Chief, Chairman 100th Anniversary, Association President, Vice-President Fireman’s Relief Association, July 4th Committee, Firematics Committee, Venison Dinner Committee, Life member State Relief Association, Firehouse Renovation Committee and New Apparatus Committee. He was a member of Minisink Club. He was responsible for mechanical maintenance, interfaced with vendors, plumbers, electricians, pool maintenance companies. He supervised opening/closing in the Spring and Fall. Responsible for building horseshoe pits, tennis deck and oversaw building of new pools.

Deane was a dedicated father. He faithfully attended any athletic event in which his five children participated, ice hockey, baseball, soccer, football and softball. He enjoyed bowling, golf, horseshoes, and crossword puzzles. Deane is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol Elmblad (nee Tyrone), his 5 children, Scott USNR (Danica) of Stuttgart, Germany, Brett (Lauren) of Mountainside, NJ, Glenn (Kerri) of Fairfield, CT, Jeff (Lisa) of Parsippany, NJ and Jennifer Wirth (Jeff) of Madison, NJ. Loving grandfather of Matthew Elmblad, Luke Wirth, Patrick Elmblad, Sydney Elmblad, Emma Wirth and Jackson Elmblad. Also survived by sister, Dayle Bartell of Boynton Beach, FL, and loving nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by his sister& brother-in-law, Karen & Jon Forrest.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, from 2 to 5 pm at Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St. Chatham. A Prayer Service will be held at 3:30, with Military Honors and a Fireman’s Service at 5. In lieu of flowers, donations in Deane’s name may be made to the Chatham Borough Fire Department, 1 Fire House Plaza, Chatham, NJ 07928.
