Derek William Hendershot, 70, of Plainfield Township, PA, formerly of Green Village, NJ passed away peacefully on November 24th 2023 with family by his side. Born in Morristown, NJ. He grew up in Morris Township and went to Morristown High School. Derek resided in Green Village for many years before retiring to Plainfield Township, PA.
Derek was a pipefitter/ welder for over 40 years with the Pipefitters Local #274 in Parsippany, NJ. He was also a Volunteer Firefighter for over 30 years with the Green Village Volunteer Fire Department. Derek was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of the local Rod and Gun club where he spent many a weekend hunting, fishing, and riding quads with friends. Derek was brought up at his father’s auto body shop and thus ensued his lifelong love of working on cars, especially his Mustangs.
Derek found real enjoyment in NASCAR, gardening, working around the house, and watching birds outside.
He was a warm and generous man and his greatest love was his family. His wife Theresa was the most special to him. He loved being with family and always thought of holidays and birthdays as social events. He loved babysitting all of his grandkids and family trips to the Jersey Shore were the best.
Derek is survived by his wife Theresa M. Hendershot, his children, Daniel Hendershot of Pequannock Township, NJ, Melissa Hendershot of Whippany, NJ, Nicholas Hendershot of Washington Township, NJ. His stepchildren, Steven Tanzola of Tokyo, Japan and Shannon Wright of Bangor, PA , and his brother Robert Hendershot of Mendham, NJ. He was the loving grandfather of Danica, Cole, Riley, Piper, Ethan and Lucas.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023 from 4-8pm at the Wm. A. Bradley & Sons Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Chatham, NJ.
A graveside service will be held at Restland Memorial Park, 77 Deforest Avenue, East Hanover, NJ on Friday December 1, 2023 at 11:45am.
