Doyle C. Sancho, 65 of Woodbridge, NJ passed away on Tuesday June 7, 2023, after courageously battling many health issues. Doyle was a graduate of East Side High School in Newark, NJ and studied at Seton Hall University. He was employed for 36 years by NJ Department of Human Services, Division of Developmental Disabilities, which fulfilled his advocacy for the disabled community. He was an exemplary employee and advocate who worked his way up from providing direct care to service recipients to Assistant CEO of Woodbridge Developmental Center when he retired in 2012, due to health issues.
Doyle was born to Mary L. Gillens and James W. Sancho Sr. in Newark NJ in 1957. He was the 6th of 9 children. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Elizabeth (BJ) Sancho-Duser, son John Sancho and daughter Jade Sancho-Duser as well as his siblings, Marvin Gillens of Newark; Barbara Simmons of Orangeburg, SC; Señora Gillens of Newark; Maryanne Sancho- Reed of Hillside, NJ; James Sancho Jr of Tamarack FL; Jaruth Armstrong of East Orange NJ; and Micheal Gillens of Irvington NJ. He is predeceased by his Mother Mary l Gillens, Father James W. Sancho Sr., and brother Charles Gillens. He leaves many nieces, nephews and friends.
He fiercely loved his family and will be remembered by his beautiful smile, courage, and tenacity for living. He took great pride in being a member of the Masonic Lodge St. James #37 in Newark, which fulfilled a lifetime dream. He will be sorely missed by all his colleagues, Masonic Brothers, family and friends. It was Doyle’s wishes to have direct cremation and no memorial service, and his family has complied with his wishes.
