Eileen Caffrey Wyrough, 95, resident of Summit, NJ, for 66 years, died Friday, December 12, 2020, at her home.  Eileen was born March 17, 1925, (appropriately on St. Patrick’s Day), in Newark, NJ, and grew up in South Orange.  She attended Our Lady of Sorrows School in South Orange and Columbia High School in Maplewood.  A 1946 graduate of the College of St. Elizabeth located in Convent Station, she was an active alumna and proudly attended every reunion.

She met her husband, John, following the end of WWII, and their first date was a dance at St. Elizabeth’s in December of 1945.  There was never anyone else for either of them.  They were married in April of 1950 and were together until his death in June 1992.

Eileen was a loving mother and grandmother.  Always involved in her children’s activities, she served as Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader, CCD teacher, school class mother, and fan at many sporting events.  She looked forward to seeing her grandchildren, and her living room is filled with pictures of them.

She gave to her community through many volunteer efforts, especially as a long-time parishioner at St. Teresa of Avila Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, assisted with Loaves and Fishes, and counted collections with a group of parishioners every Monday morning for many years.

After raising her children, Eileen had the opportunity to travel and took advantage of it, enjoying going on cruises, visiting much of Europe, and taking her last trip abroad to Israel.  She was happiest when with a group of people and had the talent of seemingly knowing everything about a person after one conversation.  Throughout her life she maintained a wide circle of friends.  She loved being surrounded by her family.  After a long, full life, engaged in with strength, determination, faith and caring, Eileen is now at peace.

She is survived by her three sons John, Robert, James and his wife, Colleen Cook; two daughters Nancy and Kathleen; and two grandchildren, Aidan and Isabella.
