It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Elisa Cassanelli’s passing on November 29, 2024 at the age of 79. Elisa was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.
Elisa was a force and the heartbeat of her family. Her love and respect for her children and grandchildren was truly unmeasurable. Mrs. Cassanelli never lost faith and instilled a level of discipline, courage and rightness in everyone she touched. She was a woman of strength, intelligence and character who was immensely proud of her family.
Elisa was born in Molfetta, Italy and moved to the U.S. in the late 1960s. She attended Hoboken High School where she graduated valedictorian of her class. She was married to the late Saverio Cassanelli in 1968 and mother to Frank and Joseph Cassanelli. Most of her career was spent at Safilo USA before retiring to Florida in 2007 but somehow never left New Jersey.
Elisa adored her retirement and loved nothing more than to guide her family. She enjoyed many summer trips to Italy and sharing a great meal and stories with her loved ones over limoncello. She especially loved seeing the success of her children and grandchildren. She worked hard, laughed hard and was always at the center of her family. In her final years, Elisa came to enjoy the Jersey Shore, spending afternoons on the porch in Sea Girt and attending Lobster Night at the Parker House religiously every Wednesday night. She always knew how best to hold court and be the center of attention.
Elisa leaves behind her treasured sons, Frank and Joseph, her daughter-in-law Tina, Anca, her special grandchildren Christian, Matthew, Samantha and Alexa and her sister and brothers Frances (husband Dino), Cosmo (wife Denise) and Joe (wife Linda). Elisa also leaves behind many incredible nieces, nephews, cousins and innumerable friends in the U.S. and Italy.
Mrs. Cassanelli was loved by her family and friends and will be deeply missed and forever admired.
In lieu of flowers, we will be grateful for any donations in Elisa Cassanelli’s name to be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
