Loving Wife, Mother, and Sister

Elizabeth “Betty” P. Kovacs, 86, of Springfield, New Jersey passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ.

Betty was born on January 10, 1927 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James and Martha (nee Heusser) Meek. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Elizabeth, NJ and later worked at Bell Laboratories.

Betty enjoyed sewing, craft projects, and decorating her home. She looked forward to visiting her friends at Springfield Seniors. Betty and her husband, Peter enjoyed traveling and she loved spending time with her family, especially her cherished grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Peter A. Kovacs. She was the mother to daughter, Joan and partner Rebecca Snead, son, Thomas Kovacs and co-parents; Donna Schrader and Henry Van Dyke, and daughter, Marie and husband Michael Mercier. She was the grandmother to twins; Brian and Jessica Mercier, and grandson, Eric Kovacs-Schrader. She is also survived by her twin sister, Mary Wagner and sister, Helen Mechler. She was predeceased by brother, James Meek and sisters, Martha Fitzpatrick and Catherine Meek.

A visitation will be held Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave., Springfield, NJ 07081. A Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2014 in the funeral home. An entombment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, NJ.
