Eric Richard Goepfert, 68, of Union, New Jersey passed away on Friday, February 6, 2015 at his home.
Eric was born on February 18, 1946 in Schenectady, NY. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard and Josephine (nee Damarodis) Goepfert.
Eric grew up in Trenton and later resided in Union, NJ. He was a graduate of Villanova University with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He furthered his education and received his Master’s degree from Stanford University.
Eric served in the United States Navy for 13 years including four tours of duty to Antarctica and other remote locations and retired as Lieutenant Commander. After the Navy, he worked in various engineering capacities, including the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, and most recently as a consultant for Burns & Roe for many years. Eric was a world traveler, avid reader and a comic book collector.
Eric is survived by his loving wife, Carol Bastien Goepfert. He is also survived by his brothers; Kurt and wife Maria, Marc and wife Nancy, and Paul and wife Joann. He was the uncle to Christopher, Matthew, Catherine, Sarah, and William.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Millburn, 132 Spring St Millburn, NJ 07041. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. at the church on Wednesday, February 11, 215. An entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hamilton, NJ.
