Florence Carroll passed peacefully on Wednesday, June 3, 2020.
Born December 29, 1925 in Summit, NJ, Florence was the youngest of three children of John and Esther Bogosian. Her older brothers were Anthony and Richard Bogosain.
Florence was a 1943 graduate of Summit High School. Having been born and raised in Summit she had countless dear and life-long friends from the broader Summit and New Providence area who she treasured and valued her relationships with beyond anything.
In 1950 at a USO dance with her friends she met the love of her life from Brooklyn, NY John Carroll and they were married on October 4, 1952 at St. Teresa’s church in Summit. They settled in Summit and raised their 3 children over the next 20+ years.
Loving the beach, they mortgaged their 1st home in 1967 to buy a bungalow in Ocean Beach, NJ and spent every summer since enjoying the beach with family and a whole new set of summer friends.
Florence retired from Reed Publishing in 1990 and while continuing to live in Summit she also spent some time every winter in Florida.
Florence was a member of the Columbiettes Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, Towne Club, The Chatham Club and was active at the Summit Seniors. Florence was an avid knitter and loved to play MahJongg. She also had a lifelong love for basketball from taking her son to Armenian league games in North Jersey to watching him play or coach in high school and college, to watching her grandchildren play. All very normal grandmother things but she also loved and relished watching regular season college and NBA games and playoffs.
Florence is survived by her son, John Carroll and his wife Beverly, Maureen Carroll, Mary Ellen Carroll Stokes and her husband Kevin. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Meghan and husband Brian Baksa, Erin Stokes, Kevin and his wife Ashley Stokes, Sean T. Stokes and Austin Carroll. Florence was a great-grandmother to Penelope Stokes, and Wesley and William Baksa. Beyond her immediate family she was affectionately known as “Auntie-O” by countless nieces and nephews who loved her as much.
