Richard, Mindy, Rory, and Geoffrey Szeto are deeply saddened to announce the passing of their beloved son and brother, Garrett Szeto, on November 2nd, 2022. Garrett’s gift to all those he loved was immeasurable. His gregariousness, sharp intellect, abundant empathy, and compassion will forever enhance our lives.
Garrett’s interests, talents, and intellectual pursuits were broad and deep. Developing his strong desire to understand and help people, he achieved a significant goal this year, obtaining a Professional Life Coaching Certificate with the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland. Always the quick wit who could leave us helpless with laughter, Garrett fine-tuned his craft with Steel City Improv Theater in Pittsburgh. His fondness for all types of food, his love of family and friends, and his unparalleled gift of the gab, made Garrett the ideal table companion. Garrett was steadfast in his commitment to self-betterment; he valued reading and meditation and always prioritized his mental wellness. Garrett cared deeply for everyone he encountered; he volunteered through various organizations around Pittsburgh and routinely pursued opportunities to promote social justice.
Garrett was an avid sports enthusiast devoted to the Indianapolis Colts and Tottenham Hotspur of the English Premier League, to the consternation of his dad and brother, Rory, both of whom supported other teams in the League. He was active in a variety of sports including varsity Lacrosse in high school, and he ran the Philadelphia Marathon in 2019. More recently, Garrett joined a weekly volleyball and pickleball league to connect with others, always his greatest source of joy.
Garrett graduated with honors with a BS in Business Administration and Finance from the University of Pittsburgh College of Business Administration in 2019. He recently completed the three-year training program at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center (UPMC), whereupon he was rewarded with his choice to serve as a Business Analyst in the Enterprise Services Division in Pittsburgh.
Garrett leaves behind a family that loves him dearly. The beloved/adored son of Richard and Mindy he is also survived by his brothers, Rory and Geoffrey; his girlfriend and partner, Bella Dougherty; his Grandmother, Julie Szeto; uncles and aunts, Andrew and Sherrie, Jonathan and Ivy, Amy and Alan and Michael and Nanci; many loving cousins; and his steadfast canine companion, Milo. He will be forever missed but never absent from our hearts and souls.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit the Bradley, Haeberle & Barth Funeral Home, 1100 Pine Ave., Union, NJ on Tuesday, November 8th from 4 to 8 PM to pay their respects.
