Gertrud “Trude” Kertesz, passed away on May 3rd, 2021 at Hudson Hills Senior Living in North Bergen after a long illness with Alzheimer’s disease. Trude was born in Duisburg, Germany and was the adventurous one in her family who immigrated alone to the United States in 1953 to work as a nanny after training as a pediatric nurse in Germany. She eventually settled in Carteret in 1963 raising her family before moving to Shady Oaks in Middletown in 1986.
In better days, she enjoyed bingo, playing computer games, walking, bus trips to Atlantic City and making her famous apple pancakes. She especially enjoyed traveling back to her homeland to visit her family. Trude also worked in a career in retail retiring from Abraham and Strauss in 1993.
Trude is survived by her daughters , Christel Foley, Heidi Toth (Ken) and Gabriela Kertesz. She was a beloved Oma to her grandchildren, Michael Foley (Tiffany), Kellie Toth and Brittany Libre (Dominick) and great-grandson, Wilhelm Foley. She is also survived by her dear friend Hedy Denndoerfer and her family in Germany, including nephews Ulf and Wolfram Hilkins, Klaus and Ulrich Fraj.
