Gladis E. Osterstock (Hagadorn) of Short Hills, NJ passed away on July 23, 2022 at the age of 109. Gladis was born in Schenectady, NY to Hubert and Beatrice (Allen) Hagadorn.
Gladis received her R.N. from Presbyterian Hospital in Newark, NJ, where she engaged in private duty nursing at local hospitals. After marrying Louis Osterstock they resided in Irvington, NJ.
In 1948, during the polio epidemic, she was an organizer for the Sister Kenny Institute, which raised funds for the victims of polio for the Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Treatment Center given at Jersey City Hospital.
After her husband, Louis returned from service in World War II they moved to Short Hills, NJ, where she joined the Millburn Red Cross as a volunteer driver.
Gladis was an avid Bridge player attaining the rank of Bronze Life Master, playing in tournaments as far as Bermuda and Minnesota.
Gladis and Louis were members of Pilgrim Congregational Church in Warren, NJ as well as longtime members of Canoe Brook Country Club. Gladis also belonged to the Millburn Women’s Club.
After her husband passed away in 2005 she became a resident of Naples. FL, where she was a member of Club Pelican Bay. After a brief stay, she moved back to Short Hills, NJ.
Gladis leaves behind her daughter Sandra Effenberger (Joseph); four grandchildren: Todd Effenberger, Lauren Tureskis (Jim), Kristin Charles (Sean), Craig Effenberger (Carina); and seven great grandchildren: Ryan Charles (Aubrey), Matthew Charles (Megan), Kaitlyn Charles, Ashley Tureskis, James Tureskis, Alexis Effenberger and Julia Effenberger.
