Gloria P. Simpson, a long-time Springfield resident, passed away at Inglemoor Care Center in Livingston on July 29, 2023. She was 96.
Born in New York City to the late Arthur and Hilda Robinson, she graduated from George Washington High School in the Inwood section of Manhattan.
Gloria worked for the Springfield Township Police Department as Records Clerk for 43 years, although she served in multiple capacities with the department.
Gloria has given a lifetime of service to the residents of Springfield as a Lifetime Member of the Springfield First Aid Squad for 60 years. She has served as President, Lieutenant, and Secretary of the squad. She has also served on the New Jersey State EMS Council, having held the position of 2nd District Vice President.
For her service, she has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the NJ State EMS Council, the Overlook Hospital Excellence in EMS Award and the Springfield Chamber of Commerce EMS Award.
She has saved countless lives and administered EMS care to total strangers as an EMS volunteer.
Gloria was also a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Millburn.
Gloria was the beloved wife to the late Herbert Simpson. She was the loving mother of Elizabeth J. Fritzen; cherished grandmother to Patrick Fritzen (Ashley) and Heather Fritzen (Nickolas); devoted great-grandmother of Patrick, Jr. and Jason. She is also survived by her four-legged grandbaby, Gemma.
