Gloria Viggiano
04/06/1927 - 03/13/2020

Gloria Viggiano of Summit, N.J. passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, March 13th, 2020 at the age of 92.  Gloria was born on April 6, 1927 in Millburn, NJ to Saverio and Maddalena Gallitelli.  In her early years, Gloria worked for Trost Bakery, a Summit landmark, and then later at Pierson’s Mill in Maplewood as a secretary and bookkeeper prior to becoming a full-time homemaker and raising her family.  She enjoyed crafts, baking and gardening and had a meticulous attention to detail.  Many of her family and friends looked forward to the holidays, not only for the celebration, but for Gloria’s delicious homemade baked goods, made with love and given with joy. Gloria was a strong willed, loving, and independent woman, who was devoted to her family and loved watching her granddaughters grow.

The beloved wife of 48 years to the late Cosimo G. Viggiano, Gloria is survived by her daughter Maria (Leo – predeceased) Radler, son Bernie (Marygrace) Viggiano, and two granddaughters who she adored; Madalyn (Matthew) Hurley, and Emily Viggiano.  Her dear sister, Erma (Andrew – predeceased) Senneca, and brother, Joseph (Amy) Gallitelli and is also survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.

In light of the current rising concerns surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic, the church is restricting to immediate family only for mass celebration.  Given these precautionary measures and guidelines in social gathering, we will be limited to immediate family for the visitation preceding the mass celebration as well. The family is respectfully requesting the understanding of everyone during this time.  As much as we would have appreciated the presence of extended family and friends, we feel obligated to protect the well-being of others in practicing social responsibility.  Please hold Gloria, as well as our family, in your prayers and hearts with our sincerest gratitude.

A private funeral mass will be celebrated 10:45 am on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at St. Teresa of Avila Church, Morris Ave, Summit. Entombment will follow at St. Teresa’s Mausoleum, Summit.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Gloria’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html), or a charity of your choosing.
