Harold P. Hoops

Harold P. Hoops of Livingston passed away Monday, January 6, 2014 at St. Barnabas Hospital in Livingston, he was 88 years old. Mr. Hoops was born in Newark, NJ on July 10, 1925 to George and Amelia (nee Hess) Hoops. He proudly served his country in World War II as a member of the Marines from 1943 to 1945.

Upon returning home, he would go on to become a police officer in the township of Irvington and reach the rank of Lieutenant before retiring in 1977 after 25 years of service.

Mr. Hoops was very active in the community, having served as President of the Irvington PBA and President of Chapter Two, a social group for widow and widowers in Essex Fells, NJ. In addition, he was an active member of the Livingston Old Guard.

Harold was predeceased by his wife Dorothy (nee Walton) in 1982. He was also predeceased by his brothers Charles, William and George Hoops. Harold is survived by his three sons Alan (Deborah), Jeffrey (Grace) and Philip (Michele). He is also survived by his two loving grandchildren, Philip Hoops Jr. and Melissa Hoops.

There will be a visitation at Bradley, Haeberle and Barth Funeral Home 1100 Pine Ave. Union NJ on Thursday, January 9, 2014 from 4-8pm. A Graveside service will be held on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 11am at Hollywood Cemetery,1621 Stuyvesant Ave, Union.
