Henrietta Smythe (Hetty), 99, of Westfield, NJ, formerly of Short Hills, NJ and Boca Raton, Florida, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012 after a brief illness. Hetty was born in England and came to the United States with her family when she was 16 years old. She is predeceased by her first husband, Charles Maager, a daughter, Evelyn Mae, a granddaughter, Susan, her second husband, John M. Smythe and a step-son Robert Smythe and a sister Eveline Madsen. Hetty is survived by her three grandsons, Michael Goetz, Oregon, John Goetz (Christine), Germany, and Robert Goetz (Elizabeth), Wisconsin. She has several great-grandchildren, a great-great grandchild, and two nieces, Maureen DiBiasi (Daniel), North Carolina and Joan Dean, Pennsylvania. Hetty was grateful for the wonderful care she received from the staff at Sunrise Assisted Living of Westfield, NJ. She has been a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, Short Hills, NJ and until recently, was a member of Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield Township. Friends and family are invited to call at the Bradley Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave, Springfield, NJ, 07081 on Wednesday, September 26 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, after which a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:15 am at St. Rose of Lima Church, 50 Short Hills, Ave, Short Hills, NJ Interment St. Rose of Lima Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Hetty requested the donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 560 Sylvan Ave, Englewood Cliffs, NJ, 07632.
