Henry "Hank" Evers

Henry W. Evers, 83, of Summit passed away at his home on March 14, 2019. A funeral service will be held at Calvary Assembly of God, 242 Shunpike Rd., in Springfield on Thursday, March 21st at 10am.  Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in E. Born in Ozone Park, NY, the son of Ludwig and Paula (Damm) Evers, Hank was a lifelong resident of Summit. He proudly served his country in both the U.S. Army, and the U.S. Army National Guard.  Hank was a technician with NJ Bell in Summit for 35 years.  After retirement he opened the Valley Tackle Shop in Summit and was the owner and operator of The Phone Man of Summit.  Known as the “Gardening Guru”, Hank loved to garden.  He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and wood carving.

Hank was the beloved husband of 53 years to Barbara. He was the loving father of Clint Evers and his wife Karen, Lisa Evers and John Evers and his wife Laura.  He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Amanda, Ryan, Melissa and Elaina, his brothers, Anton Evers and his wife Barbara, and Paul Evers and his wife Maggie, and his sister Maria Smith and her husband Ed.
