Herlean C. Sawka, 86, of Cedar Knolls passed away on August 1, 2023. A funeral mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 60 North Jefferson Ave. in Whippany on Tuesday, August 8th at 10am. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Whippany. Visiting hours at Bradley-Braviak Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Rd in Whippany will be on Monday, August 7th from 3 to 6pm with a Parastas service at 5pm.
Born in Newark, the daughter of Herman and Helen (King) Kurz, Herlean was raised in Whippany since the age of 7 and graduated from Morristown High School in 1955. She received her nursing degree from All Souls Hospital in Morristown. A registered nurse with ARC of Morris County, Herlean was also a long-time parishioner and volunteer at St. John’s and a past member of the Hanover Seniors. She enjoyed travel, reading and crocheting but most of all, she enjoyed time spent with her family and friends.
Herlean was the beloved wife of 64 years to Anthony. She was the loving mother of Tony, Greg, Doug, and Sharon Schneyer (Bill). She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Michael, Matthew (Amanda), Jennifer (Justin), and Thomas, great grandchildren, Olivia, Maverick and Clayton, and her dear sister Mary Ann Bialecki. In lieu of flowers, donations in Herlean’s memory may be made to the Cedar Knolls Fire Department and Rescue Squad, 82 Ridgedale Ave., Cedar Knolls, NJ 07927.
